HOSPITAL REPORTS
GREYTOWN AND PAHIATUA. During the month there were 43 patients admitted to hospital, 45 discharged and one death —leaving a total of 24 patients on May 31, reported the Matron of the Greytown hospital, at yesterday’s meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board. The daily average bed-state was 24.7. There were 21 major and thirteen minor operations during May. In the Buchanan Ward there were four admissions, no discharges and two deaths during the month, making a total of sixty-one patients remaining on May 31. The ambulance covered a distance of 355 miles. The daily average occupied beds was 19 reported the Matron of the Pahiatua hospital. Twenty-one major and five minor operations were performed, and three outpatients were treated. “Much inconvenience was caused,” the Matron stated, “through visitors out of visiting hours standing outside balconies talking to patients through the windows. This practice apart from interfering with the routine ward work very often caused embarrassment to other patients. On more than one occasion these visitors had not only shown a disinclination to leave when asked, but had also been insolent.” The health of the nursing staff had been good—no member reporting sick. The resignation of Sister J. Bowe, who was shortly to be married took effect on May 31. Her position would be filled by Sister J. Bond, R.N., R.M., Wanganui.
