MILITARY BALL
OUTSTANDING SUCCESS BRIGHT SCENE IN MUNICIPAL HALL. DECORATIONS GREATLY ADMIRED. An atmosphere of youth and gaiety, together with an attendance of about 600 dancers, made the twelfth annual Military Ball held in the Municipal Hall, Masterton, last night an outstanding success. There was a warmth in the elaborate decorative scheme which made the dancers forget about the winter atmosphere. Excellent music was provided by Frank Pool’s Blue River Dance Band and extras by Jack Mackey’s Novelty Syncopators. The 22 dances on the programme provided for young and old. there being a good proportion of both old time and modem dances. The colour scheme was by far the best yet seen at this function. Around the walls were hung banners adorned with the badges of the WellingtonEast Coast Mounted Rifles, Hawke’s Bay Regiment and R.S.A. Hanging from the ceiling were streamers of gold, blue, pink and orange interspersed with silver moons and stars. The ladies’ committee, which w;.s under the jurisdiction of Mesdames C. E. Rogers and I. A. Hart, was as follows: Mesdames J. Ninnes, J.- H. Irving; J. Aikman; B. Pringle; A. E. Prentice; A. Newland; G. Beecroft; W. L. Free; S. Plaisted, J. Cardno. The executive committee was: Mounted Rifles: Lance-Corporal S. Cardno, Trooper R. Todd; Q.M.S. C. Osborne. “C” Coy: Sergeant J. K. Welch, Corporal J. Robinson, Corporal H. Donald, Lance-Corporal P. Wingfield. “D” Coy: Sergeant C. Newland, Private A. Harrington. Private C. Morris. R.S.A.: Messrs A. E. Prentice, G. R. Booth, W. L. Free, Sergeant-Major C. E. Rogers. The secretaries were Lieutenant I. A. Hart and Lance-Corporal A. H. Green, and the treasurer Sergeant P. Cardno. Much credit was due to the secretaries, treasurer, and member of the committees for the excellence of the general arrangements. The flowers on the supper tables were artistically arranged by Mrs S. A. Madden and Miss E. Burling. A dress list appears on the Women’s Page.
