THE GREATEST ARTISTS

WALLACE BEERY'S OPINION. Asked a .few days ago to name the greatest actors and actresses in his time, Wallace Beery surprised everybody by including Clark Gable in his list. “Don’t underrate Gable,” said Wally. “He’s a great performer, and he’ll be a great character actor when he passes the matinee idol stage. I’ve studied him and I know he’s got it in him.” Beery rated Charles Chaplin as the •greatest star of all. He said he was a great comedian, a great dramatic star, and the greatest pantomimist of all. Then he named Mary Pickford, the Gish sisters (particularly Lilian), Henry B. Walthall and Gable.
