BIOGRAPHICAL FILMS
MANY TO BE SEEN THIS YEAR. In spite of all the troubles that biographical films cause, studios have scheduled many for the coming year. Following the "Life of Alexander Graham Bell,” inventor of the telephone. Fox will rush into production the life of Brigham Young, Mormon leader and founder of the State of Utah. Darryl Zanuck, production chief of Fox, claims the “boy meets girl” theme for movies is deader than dead at the boxoffice, and he thinks the people want more pictures of real personalities. 1 That may be right, but what the public want are correct stories, not exaggerations of historical facts. Other biographies to be filmed this year include Beethoven, Thomas Edison, Lincoln, Charles Steinmetz, the electrical genius, and John Raul Jones, the father of America’s navy.
