ADDINGTON
IMPROVED VALUES CONTINUE. GOOD SALE FOR CATTLE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 21. The improved values recorded during the last few weeks were fully maintained at the stock sale held in Addington today. The tendency was towards a firming for best wethers. The store sheep entry was about 1000. There was quite a fair demand, particularly for wethers. Some two-tooths sold at 12s 2d. A truck lot of wether hoggets sold at 11s 6d, with other pens of grown wethers selling at 8s 6d to Ils 6d. About 500 fat lambs were entered, compared with the 580 of last week. There was little change in the market, butchers competing keenly for the small selection of suitable types available. More than 5000 fat sheep were entered, compared with the short penning of 4200 last week. From the start the demand was well maintained at the best prices of last week for ewes, and a shade better for best wethers. Extra prime heavy wethers made to 30s 4d; prime heavy, 25s to 27s 6d; prime medium, 22s to 245; light, to 16s 6d; extra prime heavy ewes, to 27s 4d; prime heavy, 21s to 235; prime medium, 16s to 19s 6d, light, to 13s. The fat cattle entry numbered 490, slightly less than the average of recent sales. The sale was good, with values for practically all classes definitely better than a week ago. For best steers the improvement was equal to about 20s a head, and for medium, 10s to 15s. Other sorts also sold a little more freely. Good beef ranged from 36s to 37s 6d a 1001 b. Extra prime heavy steers made to £l7 17s 6d; prime heavy, £l3 15s to £l5; prime medium, £ll 10s to £l3 10s; light, to £9; extra prime heifers, to £l2 17s 6d; prime, £9 10s to £lO 15s; medium, £6 10s to £8 10s; light, to £6 ss; extra prime cows, to £ll 12s 6d; prime, £7 5s to £8 15s; medium, £5 10s to £6 15s; light, to £5 ss. The porker entry was smaller than last week, but values showed very little improvement. Choppers were in small supply and met an excellent demand. Baconers were forward in mediocre numbers and the sale was again good, last week’s rates being fully maintained. Porkers made 31s 6d to 54s 6d, an average price a lb of 6',d to 6,?d; and baconers made an average price a lb of 6,|d to 7d.
