LONDON QUOTATIONS ANOTHER SETBACK IN BUTTER. CHEESE MARKET STEADY. Another setback in the London butter market brought the price of New Zealand choicest salted down to 114 s to 115 s, a decline of 3s a cwt on the week, and 5s below the price ruling a year ago. The latest quotation is 9s 3d to 10s 3d less than the London equivalent of the New Zealand guaranteed price of 124 s 3d. According to the cabled report supplied by the Primary Products Marketing Department to the Dairy Board, the market was steadier at the close. Friday’s closing quotations, with those of the previous week in parentheses, were as follows: — New Zealand: Salted, 114 s, ‘‘ex 115 s (117 s to 118 s; a year ago. 119 s to 120 s; unsalted, 115 s to 116 s (118 s to 120 s; a year ago, 120 s to 1225). 'Australian: Salted. Ills to 112 s (115 s to 116 s); unsalted, 113 s to 114 s (115 s to 117 s).
Danish: 102 s C.0.b.; 123 s to 124 s spot (105 s 126 s to 1275). Dutch: Salted, 107 s to 109 s; unsalted. 107 s to 109 s. ex 113 s (112 s to 113 s). Irish cream: Salted, 114 s (117 s Lithuanian: Unsalted, 110 s to 114 s (113 s to 114 s). Polish: Salted and unsalted, 106 s to 110 s (UOs to 112 s). South Africa 105 s to 108 s (112 s to 113 s). Retail prices were unchanged, New Zealand at Is 2d, and Danish at Is 3d a lb. Deliveries of New Zealand butter from store last week were 1543 tons. The quantity in store, including 1155 tons ex Dominion Monarch and Rangitane, was 6894 tons, compared with 5558 tons the previous week, and 5266 tons a year ago. Deliveries of Australian butter last week were 1285 tons, the quantity in store being 3215 tons, compared with 4852 tons a year ago. The cheese market was steady last week, New Zealand coloured at 61s showing a rise of Is on the week. The latest quotations for New Zealand cheese are from 7s 6d to 8s lower for white, and 5s lower for coloured, than those ruling a year ago. Friday's closing quotations for cheese, with those of the previous week in parentheses, were as follow: New Zealand: White, 59s 6d to 60s (59s 6d to 60s; a year ago, 67s to 67s 6d); coloured, 61s (59s to 60s; a year ago, 65s to 665). Australian: White, 56s to 57s (56s to 575); coloured, 57s to 58s (565. to 575). Canadian: White, 71s to 72s (71s to 725); coloured, 71s to 73s (71s to 735); c.i.f., 62s (565). English, finest farmers’, 90s to 100 s (90s to 100 s). The retail price’ of New Zealand cheese was unchanged at 7d a lb. Deliveries of New Zealand cheese from store last week were 14,966 crates. The quantity in store was 118.710 crates, compared with 58,864 crates a year ago, or more than double. Deliveries of Canadian cheese last week were 4110 boxes, the quantity in store being 73,095 boxes, as against 64,354 boxes a year ago. Gradings of cheese in New Zealand for the week ended June 10 were 2148 crates of white, and 1698 crates of coloured, a total of 3846 crates.
