PLAY READINGS
CONCLUSION OF DRAMA SCHOOL. SATURDAY’S PRESENTATIONS. The Drama School held by the Wairarapa Drama League in St. Matthew’s School Assembly Hall was concluded on Saturday when further classes and rehearsals took place. On Saturday evening the plays were read at a public session and those who had seen the rehearsals voted the great improvement in positions, speed, etc. The tutor was Mrs Victor Lloyd. There was a large attendance of the public. The readings included an extremely modern and most amusing comedy, the characters being: Misses Jocelyn Betts, Rona Edwards, Connie Shearer, Kane, Messrs W. Mann, G. Dickel, Free Claridge, R. Daniell, and a period play of superstitions north of England towards the end of the 18th century, the characters being: Mrs Gibb-Johnston, Misses Molly Dwyer, Dora Hathaway, Elizabeth Thomas, Barbara Hair, Betty Judd, Helen Pilmer, Messrs John Lawson and Peter Parsons. A play reading of a farce by Arnold Bennett was also given, the readers being: Mrs E. J. Rich, Miss O. R. Sutherland, Messrs Vivian Joseph and Peter Parsons.
