KIATERE CLUB. ANNUAL FOUR MILE HANDICAP. On Saturday, under ideal conditions the Kiatere Harrier Club, conducted the annual 4-mile open handicap, which carries with it the Silver Rose Bowl donated by Mrs R. C. Falloon. The juniors held a two-mile open handicap, the times returned being very fast. The course embraced a good variety of country. Fw the first half mile, ihe trail led to the railway line, thence to branch off towards the Solway School, from the school the paper led across country to the main high--1 way, and then back to the Showgrounds. The juniors \vere first away, the pacemakers being G. Laing, N. Dickel, J. Hodges, 'off 2min. 40secs. These were followed by S. Pickett (2min.), F. Sexton and C. Summers (40secs.). After a mile had elapsed the scratch men began to come through, the most noticeable being M. Doyle. On the finishing straight, S. Pickett had the lead with N. Dickel and M. Doyle about 20 yards behind, these being followed by N. Jacobsen and C. Stewart. In the sprint in S. Pickett held his lead but Dickel could not quite hold the devastating finish of M. Doyle. However, both boys ran a well judged race. The final placings were:—S. Pickett, 13 min. 15secs„ 1'; M. Doyle, 13min. 20secs„ 2; N. Dickel, 13min. 21secs„ 3; N. Jacobsen, 13min. 20secs„ 4; C. These two runners set a very fast pace, the scratch men making no impression in the first lap. The middle handicap men were led by L. Francis, who ran a very well judged race. Half way around the second time Francis, who was running with perfect ease and style, began to draw away from his co-makers. On the main road he challenged G. Bell who made a valiant effort to keep with Francis but he had too much pace. Over the last half mile Francis increased his lead to about 150 yards. G. Bell ran a very fine race to just head off a very determined finish by H. Stewart. The final placings and times were:—L. Francis, 26min. 52secs., 1; G. Bell,-27 min. 17secs., 2; H.
