An American Loan?

The difficulty facing Mr Nash in his attempt to convert his £17,000,000 loan in the London market might lead him to consider the possibility of transferring it to America, according to a message published in the wireless news on board the Tamaroa, which arrived at Wellington yesterday from London. Mr A. W. Beaven, Christchurch, gave the news to reporter.

First of Series of Competitions. The first of a series of competitions between the Masterton Catholic Club and Waingawa Works Club was held at St Patrick's Hall last night. There was a large attendance and a most enjoyable time was spent. The competitions included bridge, “500.” crib, billiards and table tennis. The Masterton Catholic Club were the winners last night. Mr J. Curry, president of the Catholic Club, welcomed the visitors. The supper was arranged by the ladies' committee of the Catholic Club. The next social evening will be held on July 13.

Americans regard billiards as too slow; they prefer snooker. Skittle alleys are popular also in America, where they like noisy games.
