RABBITSKIN MARKET
SALE AT WELLINGTON. COMPARATIVELY LOW PRICES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The first rabbitskin sale of the 1939 season was held at Wellington yesterday by Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., and Dalgety and Co., Ltd. Medium-sized catalogues were offered. The quality of the skins, as is usual with the opening sale, was not of a high order, comprising mostly summer grades with a large percentage of stale skins. In view of the unsettled state of the overseas market buyers were operating with caution, and prices for grades other than freshly-caught skins were on a comparatively low basis. For the winter lots, however, satisfactory prices were obtained, incomings making up to 34Jd, early winters to 44d, and first bucks to 60d. These prices are well up to those ruling at the June sale last year, and indicate that trapping will again be a payable proposition. The following is the range of prices:— Small, to 6d; runners, Hid to 12d; light racks. 13d to 15s; prime racks, 13|d to 14d; milky, 9d to lOd.
