COURSING

SATURDAY’S MEETING. The open stake to be run in conjunction with the Grimwood Cup at the Akura Plumpton, under the control of the Wairarapa Coursing Club promises to be as interesting as the Maiden Stake. It is confidently expected that when nominations close the stake will have filled as only one nomination is required to make the necessary 8 dogs. From the class of dogs entered some thrilling and closely contested ties will be the order of the day. Dogs from a wide area have accepted. Hastings, Wanganui, Masterton, Carterton and Wellington will be represented by the following dogs: —Mr Lang’s (Hastings), Leading Through, an outstanding open coursing dog, who has recently arrived from the South Island; tvir W. L. Jensen’s Carterton), Helen Rufus, a very smart and clever worker; Messrs James and Taylor’s (Masterton) Dainty Footsteps, a real speedster and a dangerous opponent for any dog; Mr W. Spring’s (Masterton), Julius Caesar, the winner of the Puppy Stake, who may find open company a little strenuous until he matures more; Messrs McGrath and Cooke’s (Wellington) Sultan, who appeared to have speed on the tracks may show to better advantage on the Plumpton; Mr C. Bowden’s (Wanganui), Southern Voyage is a real classy dog on the tracks, which he proved at Dannevirke recently when he won the open event in record time. Mr F. Butcher's Full o' Gay on her recent form should be close up to winning. She was only beaten by points by that outstanding dog the Clipper in the second round after winning the first course by 11 points to 4. She is an honest and good worker, and will extend the best of the competitors. As a large programme has to be run off during the afternoon, the first course will commence promptly at 1.45 p.m.
