STOCK MARKET

ADDINGTON SALE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 14. Another good sale resulted for fat sheep at Addington today. There was a little wider selection in the store sheep pens and the larger attendance of farmers assisted in a better allround demand, the sale of store sheep being the brightest for a few week. A pen of two-tooth half-bred ewes sold at 17s 7d, and a good truck lot of sound-moutheds at 11s 6d. Old ewes were still at rock-bottom prices. The fat lamb sale, as a whole, was dragging, and except for a few butchers’ pens prices were on a par with store rates in a normal season. The fat sheep entry of 4200 was a little larger than last week. The quality was patchy. From the outset the sale was sound, with values fully up to those of last week, with a shade of firming for ewes and best wethers. Light and medium wethers were down Is a head. ' Extra prime heavy wethers made to 30s Id, prime heavy 24s 6d to 275, medium 21s 6d to 245, light to 16s; extra prime heavy ewes to 25s lOd, prime heavy 21s to 22s 6d, medium 16s to 19s 6d, light to 12s. The quality of fat cattle was again indifferent. The market opened satisfactorily for good classes of beef and there was practically no change in values. For poorly-finished cattle, however, there was an easing. The sale was slow throughout. Extra prime heavy steers made to £l7 7s 6d, prime heavy £l3 to £l4 ss; prime medium £lO 15s to £l2 15s, light to £8 10s; extra prime • heifers to £lO 12s 6d, prime £9 to £lO ss, medium £6 to £8 ss, light to £5 15s; extra prime cows to £ll 12s 6d, prime £7 to £8 ss, medium £5 5s to £6 10s, light to £5. The porker entry was very small at the beginning of the sale, and as a result values were 2s to 3s a head better than last week. However, tne entry was more than doubled by late entries and for the last few races sales were exceedingly hard to make at satisfactory prices. Baconers were forward in small numbers and the sale was again good, last vzeek’s rates being fully maintained. Choppers were in medium supply and met with an excellent demand. Porkers made £1 Ils to £2 14s 6d, an average price a lb of to 6.? d; and baconers made £2 19s 6d to £5 Is 6d, an average price a lb of 61d to 7d.

MASTERTON SALE. SHEEP PRICES FIRM. The Associated Auctioneer’s report on their weekly sale held yesterday as follows: —A small entry of sheep and cattle came forward and attracted a large attendance, several outside buyers being present. The sheep market was firm, and in some cases slightly better than last week. There was only a small yarding of fats, and these also showed an improvement. Keen interest was shown in the yarding of cattle, especially in the lines of specially advertised weaner steers, a good line of these on account of Mr James Andrew making £3 15s after spirited competition. They were well-bred and well grown cattle. Fat cattle were also keenly sought after, fat cows making from £6 to £6 Bs.
