CRIPPLED CHILDREN DONATION TO SOCIETY’S FUNDS ("Times-Age” Special.) At the meeting of trie rsorough Council it was decided to grant 2 guineas to the funds of the New Zealand Society for the assistance to crippled children, following a request for financial assistance. Grant Refused. An application to the Borough Council meeting by the Wairarapa and Ruahine Aero Club for a grant towards its funds was Mayor as Grandfather, There was a happy interlude at the conclusion of the business at the borough Council meeting when Councillor Olsen said the Council wanted to mark the fact that the Mayor had made his-' tory and from being an able Mayor, he had gone one better and become a grandfather, being the first Mayor in Eketahuna to achieve that distinction. On behalf of the Council he wished him long life —he was sure now of good comfort in it and he asked him to accept a silver christening mug for his grand-daughter. Mr Simpson suitably replied. Personal. Mr William Shannon who died recently at his residence at Nireaha, was born in County Antrim, Ireland, and came to New Zealand in the sailing ship Tongariro, 56 years ago. Mr Shannon took up farming in the Bush district twenty-six years ago and farmed till the time of his death. He was married in 1891 to Miss Minnie Williamson, of Wellington, who predeceased him in 1922. There are four sons and two daughters to mourn their loss. He was a well known Freemason.
