The following is the draw for the final rounds for the Miss McDougall trophy and the Campbell Cup. respectively:—Mrs Bragg v Mrs Sutherland, Miss McDougall v- Mrs Cowan; Mrs McKenzie v Miss Cock; Mrs Carter v Mrs Herangi; J. Riwai handed in the best net score for the men, and Mrs Sutherland for the ladies. The three best cards at the end of the fourth round should give three lady competitors a chance of annexing the trophy for the season. The final round of the mens competition also shows the position to be at a very interesting stage. Four competitors are even and two others are one stroke behind, and the final round on Saturday promises to be very interesting. The return inter-club match against Featherston will be played on the local links at the weekend and the following will represent the local club:—B. McMaster, G. Munro, D. Tikao, T. Hume, R. McDougall, J. Riwai, M. Herangi, D. Jones, S. and G. Hall. J. Carter, M. and K. Waiwera, W. Charteris, S. Thomas, F. Lovegrove, M. McLeod and G. Sutherland. Petty Thieving. There has been a good deal of petty thieving recorded in the district. A well-known local settler has had benzine pilfered from drums on several occasions. Last Friday evening an attempt was again made but the thieves were disturbed. In their hurry to get away two benzine containers and a length of hose were left behind. One resident has had three pairs of shoes stolen from his home during his absence. Queen Contest. Miss Betty Sutton has been selected as the local candidate in the Queen contest in connection with the next Green and Gold Ball to be held here early in September. Women’s Institute Ball. Readers are reminded of the ball under the auspices of the local branch of the Women’s Institute to be held on June 27. The local branch is sparing no efforts to make the event a most enjoyable one. The supper arrangements, which are in capable hands, will be a feature of the evening. Udy’s dance band will provide the music. A Mild Scare. An employee of a well-known sheepfarmer was the cause of a mild scare recently, when he failed to return home at a late hour. He informed his employer that he was going shooting at a place some miles from the homestead. When he failed to return his employer became anxious. Several persons were communicated with and a search instituted. The night was dark and cold and the searchers had a most unenviable time, but no trace of the missing shooter could be found. Eventually Mr Trevor Hume, who was the first in the search, called at the residence of one of his employers when, to his surprise and relief, the missing man was located enjoying the benefit of a warm fire. He explained that his horse had strayed and he could not locate it. He walked to where he was found, with the intention of getting his friend to run him home in his motor car. However, with the cosy fire and the interesting conversation, the lateness of the hour went r>ast unnoticed. , School Committee. A meeting of the local School Committee was held last night when sev ■ eral matters were dealt with. Accounts were passed for payment. Motor-car Accident. A local lady motorist who was returning to her home at the Lake Ferry on Saturday, was fortunate to escape serious injury when her car ran into a ditch. It appeared that when approaching a rather bad turn in the road the lights of the car fused with the result as stated. No damage was done to the car. Personal Items. Mesdames Cowan and Graham, who were visiting Feilding, have returned home. Mr and Mrs D. J. Mclntosh and family, Dannevirke, have been on a visit to Mr and Mrs D. J. Mclntosh, Senr.
