MASTERTON GUN CLUB
CLAY BIRD COMPETITIONS. HIGH STANDARD OF SHOOTING. The first weekend shoot held by the Masterton Gun Club proved a great success, a large number of shooters and spectators being present despite the inclement weather. The shooting was of a very high standard considering the bad conditions. A feature of the day was the remarkably fine shooting of the B grade competitors, particularly T. A. Brown, who was making his first appearance in competitive trap shooting. The president (Mr R. J. King) extended a hearty welcome to the visitors, and expressed pleasure at the large attendance. Shooters were present from all the Wairarapa clubs, also a number from Wellington. Amongst the distinguished visitors was the Hon W. E. Parry, who also competed. The following are the principal scores:-— A grade:—W. E. Parry (17), 17, C. E. Grey (17), 17, J. W. McKenzie (15). 17; H. K. Smith (17). 16; V. Swanson (16), 16; T. Skippage (16), 16; G. Bretherton (16). 16; D. McKenzie (16), 16; R. J. King (17). 15: A. Macalister (15), 15; J. McKenzie (16), 15; several others competed. B grade;—W. Maroney (11), 16; L. Meredith (11), 16; R. Fuge (11), 16; J. Gallagher (12), 16; L. Rayner (11). 16; T. A. Brown (11), 16; G. Vincent (11), 15; R. Walker (12), 15; V. Swanson, Junr. (11), 15: J. Curton (11), 14; F. Allen (12), 13; R. Cameron (11), 13; E..J. Neill (12), 10. Yankee Shoot: —Conditions were very hard for this competition, the light in the concluding stages being very bad. The following shot nine out of 10 birds:—W.
