SERIES OF ACCIDENTS IN MELBOURNE SIX PERSONS KILLED . AND OTHERS INJURED. CAR STRIKES ELECTRIC TRAIN. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright. MELBOURNE. June 12. The King's Birthday holiday today was marred by a distressing series of accidents, three of which were fatal. One man was killed and another seriously injured when a car struck' an electric 'train at Ferntree Gully, 26 miles from Melbourne. The car was carried 75 yards by the train, which was crowded with holidaymakers. Two men were still inside the wreckage of the car when the train stopped. One person was killed and three were injured, one critically, when a car travelling to the city from Bacchus Marsh. 34 miles from Melbourne, struck .a post and overturned four times. A young woman was killed when the side was torn from a car which struck a tree in the suburb of Elsternwick. Three deaths in suburban accidents made a day’s total of six fatalities. At least 20 people were injured in other accidents in the city and country. Fine weather attracted many motorists on the roads.
