HOSPITAL BEDS
MANY AVAILABLE IN BRITAIN IN EMERGENCY. HEALTH MINISTER’S PLANS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, June 11. Speaking on emergency hospital accommodation, the Minister of Health, Mr 'Walter Elliot, said in the' House of Commons that, by sending suitable cases to their homes and by crowding up existing buildings, 200.000 hospital beds would be made available for the treatment of casualties within 24 hoars of the outbreak of war. Another 500,000 beds would be provided in hospital buildings. These would not be enough.- however, and he had. therefore, given a beginning, to a scheme for providing 40,000 more beds, mostly in hutted extensions to existing hospitals, but partly in a small number of complete hospitals in hutments.
