EXPERIENCES OF TRAMPING CLUB PARTY. VISIT TO THE MITRE FLATS. A party of members of the Wairarapa Tramping Club visited the Mitre Flats during the weekend in the hope of climbing Mitre Peak, but the conditions yesterday made this impossible. On arrival at the hut in unpleasant weather on Saturday afternoon it was found that those who had last used the hut had not left any wood, which is, quite against the code of recognised trampers. On Saturday night a thunderstorm was experienced and on Sunday morning a howling southerly, accompanied by snow and sleet, made the climb to the peak out of the question. The party returned to Masterton later in the day.

This morning snow could be seen well sprinkled over the foothills of the Tararuas.
