OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS

THE PRICE OF MILK (To the Editor.) Sir, —Can you tell me why the'price of milk is sevenpence per quart in Masterton? A friend from Hastings informed me that sjd per quart was the price in that town. Is there any good reason why people here should have to pay such an exorbitant price? Trusting that some explanation will be forthcoming.—-I am, etc., PUZZLED. Masterton, June 7. Inquiries made among local milkmen indicated that 7d per quart was charged for milk in Auckland, Wellington, Pahiatua and Napier. In Palmerston North the price was 7d booked and 6Jd for cash. The price in Napier during the summer months was sd. It was considered unlikely, if the price was 7d in Napier, that it would be 5Ad in Hastings, unless the latter was the price paid during the summer months.
