TROUBLE ON NIAGARA
ENGINEERS DISSATISFIED WITH QUARTERS ONE SMALL CABIN FOR TWO MEN CONFERENCE LAST NIGHT. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received This Day, 9.55 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Company officials said they hoped the Niagara would sail at 10 o’clock this morning. Trouble arose because several junior engineers were dissatisfied with their quarters. Members of the crew said the quarters for the engineers left much to be desired. One man said: “Some of the cabins are like boxes and they become unbearable for two men to live in when we reach the tropics.” The men allege that they were promised that arrangements would be made for them to obtain single berth cabins during the Niagara’s recent layup and when they found this had not been done they decided to strike. Although it is stated that fifteen engineers are involved in the dispute, it was noticed that only seven men left the ship. ' A meeting of the Institute of Marine Engineers last night discussed the trouble with two officials of the Union Company and adjourned until this morning. Union and company officials refused to divulge the result of the conference.
