The present organisation for the overseas marketing of wool and meat was praised by Mr. E. Hay, president of the Canterbury Sheep Owners’ Union, speaking at the annual conference of the North Canterbury district of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. There were movements to change the marketing system, he said, but the farmers should give a great deal of thought before they disturbed it. For meat the freezing companies provided a wonderful organisation. For wool, there were buyers from all countries, and if producers preferred it they could ship wool to London themselves. This “open door” of freedom to sell in England should be maintained.
