ADDINGTON
FAT SHEEP VALUES IMPROVE. FIRM TONE THROUGHOUT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 7. There was a keen demand from the local trade for fat sheep at the Addington sale today and all classes except light wethers improved by 2s to 3s a head. Baconer pigs also showed an advance. The store sheep yarding of about 1000 head comprised mainly old and rough ewes, which were unwanted, and the bulk of these were passed. There was a good demand for young wethers, a line of two-tooths making 13s 6d, and another pen 10s 9d. In the fat lamb section lighter lambs barely held schedule prices, but bet-ter-class sorts ’met a spirited sale at rates slightly better than last week’s. The fat sheep market was the bright spot in the sale. The penning numbered about 4000, compared with 4500 last week, and it was a keen sale from the outset. A firm tone was maintained throughout, particularly for evzes. Light ewes, which had been selling at 8s to 10s, made in a number of instances today about 12s to 13s 6d, and many pens of wethers made in excess of 265. Extra prime heavy wethers sold to 28s lOd; prime heavy, 24s 6d to 26s 6d; prime medium, 22s to 245; light, to 16s 6d; exprime heavy, 20s 6d to 225; prime medium, 15s 6d to 19s; light, to 12s 6d. The fat cattle entry of 515 again constituted an over-supply and the market showed little change on that of last week. Average class good beef maintained values, with a few slightly better sales of primer quality. Aged cows, though showing little change in values, .sold a little more freely. Extra prime heavy steers brought to £l7 12s 6d; prime heavy, £l3 to £l4 10s; prime medium,. £ll to £l2 15s; light, to £8 15s; extra prime heifers, to £ll 7s 6d; prime, £9 to £lO 10s; medium, £6 to £8 ss; light, to £5 15s, extra prime cows, to £ll 17s 6d; prime, £7 5s to £8 10s; medium, £5 5s to £6 15s; light, to £5.
The yarding of porkers was the smallest for some time, and good quality was keenly sought, but there was little change on the prices of last week. Baconers were forward in smaller numbers and the sale was keen with values 3s to 4s better than a week ago. A medium supply of' choppers met a better sale than last week. Porkers made 30s to 54s 6d (average price a lb, 6jd to 6gd); baconers, £2 19s 6d to £5 8s 6d (average price a lb 6Jd to 7d.)
