This gave a man an opportunity of finding out for himself wha’ a farm was capable of. The necessity of finding the productive value of r farm, based on its carrying capacity before purchasing, was stressed by the speaker. This could be found by subtracting all expenses that could justly be charged against the farm from th< income, and capitalising the profit bj 5 per cent., In doing this it was best t< take an average over 3 or 4 years L returns were available. Several othes points were dealt with, including pro perties that were bounded by rivers hill country subject to slipping, farm: infested with noxious weeds, and, other that were over-capitalised with build ings. After answering several questions Mr Ross was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
