MISSING STALKERS
SEARCH BEING CONTINUED IN TARARUAS. TRAMPING PARTY SETS OUT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) LEVIN, This Day. No sign has yet been found of the two young men, Mr Francis Corrison Swanwick and Mr Herbert Pickering, both single, of Levin, who left on Saturday for a weekend deer-stalking expedition into the Tararua Ranges. A search party, headed by Mr R. A. Fuller, which left yesterday morning returned late this afternoon without having seen any sign of the lost pair. On Monday the party traversed the ground where the stalkers were last seen, but unfavourable conditions prevented any extensive search. At 6 o’clock this evening a narty, members of the Levin-Waiopehu Tramping Club, led by Mr N. M. Thomson, left to continue the search, but it will be tomorrow afternoon before they reach the locality. Additional search parties are also planned.
ANXIETY GROWING. FEARS OF AN ACCIDENT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) LEVIN, This Day. Concern is growing for their safety. Both men left their sleeping equipment in Te Matawai hut on Sunday and took only enough food for the day. They have now spent three nights in the open in most unfavourable weather. A further party of four is going today. A belief is gaining ground among those connected with previous expeditions that a mishap has befallen one of the men. in which case they would not separate unless as a last resort to gain assistance. The hills are clear today for the first time since Sunday.
