PRIVATE WEALTH
CENSUS PROPOSAL. REJECTED BY AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT, By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. CANBERRA, June 6. The Federal Government today refused a request by Mr Nairn, a West Australian member -of the House of Representatives, that the national register should include a census of private wealth. The Government claims that such a census would be out of date almost as soon as it is tabulated; secondly it might give rise to' a fear of a capital levy, which is not intended; and, thirdly, it would seriously affect the Government’s efforts to attract capital for the expansion of secondary industries. The trade union campaign in New South Wales against the national register will be launched in Sydney on June 14.
