AMAZING MARIONETTE SHOW
The most remarkable stage attraction of its kind in the world will be seen in New Zealand shortly when Sir Benjamin Fuller will present Salici’s Parisian Puppets, and the’ famous American revue, “Funz-a-Poppin.’ ” This will be the third of the big American units imported by Sir Benjamin, following on, as it does, the Marcus Show and the Hollywood Hotel Revue. Writing of this marionette show, a Sydney critic said: —"Salici’s puppets offer a type of entertainment which has been traditional in European marionette theatres for hundreds of years, but is almost unknown here. The manipulation of these four-foot dolls, so that they seem to come alive and dance and sing like human flesh, is a business of astonishing cleverness which verges on genius. Believe it or not, a whole theatre was held spellbound on their opening night by these contrivances of painted wood and wire. For more than half an hour, the marionettes dance, sing, and clown in a revue show of their own. Perhaps the Salici masterpiece is a reproduction of a pianist, first of all playing a solo of fireworks, and then accompanying a prima donna. The illusion is perfect."
