Mr Joe Edmonds, of Sydney. New South Wales, is the guest of Mr D. Fairbrother, Lansdowne. Professor Algie, of Wellington is a visitor to Masterton, and is staying at the Hotel Midland. The Hon P. C. Webb, Minister of Labour, returned to Wellington from the South Island yesterday. Mr J. Staples of Wellington, is on a visit to Masterton, and is staying at the Hotel Midland. Messrs J. Lane, and Olliver (Wellington and Cooper (Bideford) are among' the guests, at the Empire Hotel this week. The Hon D. G. Sullivan, Minister of Industries and Commerce, returned to Wellington from Christchurch yesterday. The Hon R. Semple, Minister of Public Works, returned to Wellington yesterday from a visit of inspection to the construction work on the South Island main trunk railway line. The Rt Hon M. J. Savage, Prime Minister, has vacated the Ministerial residence in Molesworth Street, where he has lived for the past three and a half years, and taken up his residence in his new home at 66 Harbour View Road, Northland.
Mr and Mrs A. Corskie, of Pownall Street, Mgsterton, who will leave shortly on a trip to England, will be entertained at a social in the Savage Club’s rooms tonight by the Red Star Football Club of which Mr Corskie has been president for many years. A vote of thanks for services by Dr J. A. Cowie Who was for 31 years a vice-president of the Wairarapa and Ruahine Aero Club, was passed at the annual meeting last night, after Mr A. McDonald had announced that owing to ill health Dr Cowie would not stand for the Vice presidency. Ml‘ McDonald paid a tribute to Dr Cowie for the splendid work he had carried out. Members of the Masterton Produce Merchants Association farewelled Mr E. E. Evernden, at a social gathering held last evening. Mr Evernden, who has been associated with the produce department of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co Ltd for some years, was presented with a fountain pen. The presentation was made by Mi’ G. C. L. Dickel, president of the Association, who, with several other speakers referred in glowing terms to the excellent services rendered by Mr Evernden.
