MASTERTON CLUB. GREGORY IN GOOD FORM. I (Notes by “Idle-Along.”) On Saturday the Masterton Club lost the Sanders Cup through the lack of training on the part of the middle men and having three good runners suffering from strained muscles. G. Gregory must be congratulated on his fine win and if this runner keeps up his training he will have a great chance at the Provincial Championships to be held in July. He is in good form at present. R. Wyeth ran a well-timed race to gain third place in the Masterton team. Wyeth is the type who will improve with training and experience. R. Shaw has not run up to ’form yet but he should do a lot better when he settles down to hard training. R. Bell ran a good race after going out and laying the trail. This runner is always a trier in inter-club events. C. Carle has not taken running seriously since winning the Novice Race but should soon be seen again in club events. G. Wickens ran a very good race and was well placed in the second lap. He is worthy of more points than recorded. Members who intend to visit Dannevirke on Saturday must hand their names to Mr C. K. Long (telephone No. 1417) before noon on Friday. Cars will leave at 10.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. G. Gregory, who competed in the 6-mile Napier Road Race on the King's Birthday, was successful in securing third place in the handicap and tied for fastest time with C. Weller, National cross-country champion, the time being 32min. lOsecs., which was exceptionally fast considering the adverse circumstances in which the race was run.
