RUGBY FOOTBALL

OLD BOYS v. OPAKI. (By “Touch. Line.”) The Old Boys—Opaki game, played at Rugby Park on Saturday was a good, fast and clean exhibition of football. Opaki won by 13 points to nil. Clarke put in a clever run to score a try, L. Morgan’s kick being fruitless. Half-time saw Opaki leading by three points. On resuming it was soon seen that Opaki would win, the forwards to a man playing splendidly. Clarke, at five-eighths, was on the opposing backs like lightning to spoil their movements. Costello put in two great runs down the line but just failed to get over. His nexl play was clever. Instead of using his line he cut right across to Grantham on the other wing, to whom he sent a pass, to receive the reverse pass and go over for a try. L. Morgan converted. Taplin fielded smartly to streak for the line and pass to Allen who went across for a try, Morgan again goaling. Old Boys were without several of their best players, then Alexander retired with an injured knee.. Rayner brothers, Ludiiman, Morris. Strang and Sanson played well: Milner was their outstanding back. Green, at fullback, was fairly 1 safe. Seymour, McKenzie and Goodin got the ball in most scrums. McKenzie was the best allround forward on the ground. Hec Alien was a great lock and good on attack. Condon was splendid in lineouts and dribbling. Peters, Taplin and Gren went well. Chisnail, at half, gave a fine display. Clarke was in great form, and to my mind he is the best five-eighth playing junior football today. M. Morgan has never played such a fine game as he did in this match. Gorringe also went well. Costello did excellently. Graham showed a lot of pace. L. Morgan, at full, 'is a find. Opaki players are asked to attend •practice on Thursday night.
