A remit as follows for presentation at the conference was framed by the council: “That the schedule of driving fees be revised.” Presentation to Engineer. Opportunity was taken at the monthly meeting of the Eketahuna County Council to present the retiring engineer, Mr. W. G. Macky, who has taken another position, .with a parting gift. t The chairman (Mr. J. B. Carruthers) on behalf of his fellow councillors and the executive staff, asked Mr. Macky’s acceptance of a handsome initialled rug, wishing him, Mrs. Macky and family, all the very best in the future. The gift was suitably acknowledged byMr. Macky. Court Cases. At a sitting of the Eketahuna S.M. Court, the traffic inspector, Mr. W. D. Milne, proceeded against Ivan Bruce Tomlinson for driving a truck without a rear number plate. Defendant stated he had been working with the truck in a metal pit and he thought the plate had been dislodged there. He was fined £1 with court costs. Gordon Harvey, of Pongaroa, on a charge of exceeding the maximum load on his lorry in the cartage of goods, was fined £2 and costs, and for carry;ng goods other than in conformity with his licence £1 and costs. Putara Road Matter. At the monthly meeting of the Eketahuna County Council, the Mauriceville County Council wrote in regard to a I:, 1 -mile length of the Putara Rpad which is in the Mauriceville County and which the ratepayers thereon desired to be transferred to the Eketahuna County. It asked that it should keep the road in question, towards which they would grant £5O per year, keeping the other £lO received from rates for administrative expenses. Councillor Goggin: There is no reason why we should not give them good service. It would save our roads, too, as their tractors use them to get to the road. Councillor Davies thought the same arrangement might be come to over some ends of roads with the Pahiatua County, though that was a much bigger proposition. Other councillors thought it would be better to wait until they saw if any adjustment of county boundaries would be made in the near future as it would be more satisfactory if that could take place.
