OBITUARY

SIR PHILIP SASSOON. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. LONDON, June 4. The death has occurred of Sir Philip Sassoon, P.C., G.8.E., C.M.G.. First Commissioner of Works since 1937. Born in 1888, Sir Philip Sassoon was educated at -Eton and Christ Church, Oxford. He was private secretary to Field-Marshal Sir Douglas Haig, Command-in-Chief of the British armies in France from 1915 to 1918. He entered Parliament in 1912, being elected for the constituency of Hythe. He was Under-Secretary of State for Air from 1924 to 1929, and from 1931 to 1937. .
