WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

SOLWAY’MANAIA MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the SolwayManaia Women’s Institute was held on Thursday last. Mrs Munn (president) welcomed the members and visitors. The roll call “Suggestions for a Programme” was followed by a sewing machine demonstration by Mr Griffiths, to whom a vote of thanks was accorded. The competitions resulted as follows: —Sugar bag article, Miss Russell 1, Mrs Groombridge 2; flowers, Mrs Reynolds 1, Mrs Munn 2; cheese straws, Mrs Woollett 1; eggless cake, Mrs Woollett 1. . The wool and rag rug competition will be judged next month. The next’ committee meeting will be held on June 15. The July programme is as follows: — Cooking: Fruit and nut loaf, cereal biscuits. Flowers: Your best bloom. Demonstration: Artificial flowers: Roll call: Cooking hints. The hostesses were Mesdames Nicholl, Whittaker. McLachlan and Miss Russell.
