LATE MR J. WATSON
LARGELY ATTENDED FUNERAL. The funeral of the late Mr. James Watson, which took place yesterday afternoon, was one of the largest seen in Masterton for some time past. There was a particularly large representation of the farming community, with which Mr. Watson, as Wairarapa Provincial Secretary of the Farmers’ Union, was closely associated throughout the district. Two cars were required to carry the wealth of floral tributes and many wreaths were also placed on the casket. Wreaths were sent from the following: President and executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, Wairarapa Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union, Manawatu Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union, secretary of the Wellington Centre of the Farmers’ Union, the Pahiatua, Carterton, Eketahuna and Kumeroa branches of the Union, the Wairarapa Provincial Council of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, the Carterton branch of the Women’s Division, Wairarapa Herd Testing Association, Wairarapa Young Farmers’. District Committee, manager and staff of the A.P.A. Union Assurance Company, director and staff of the Wellington Farmers’ Union Mutual Fire Insurance Association, the Lansdowne Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild, the New Zealand Presbyterian Missionary Auxiliary, the executive and members of the Masterton Motor Cycle Sports Club and many others. The Rev. David McNeur conducted the service at the residence and also officiated at the graveside The pallbearers were: Messrs. Hugh Morrison and C. Hay (representing the Farmers’ Union), V. Wilton (Masterton Savage Club). H. M. Morton, S. V. Gooding and E. J. Reid (Masterton Bowling Club).
