DRAMA SCHOOL
ARRANGEMENTS COMPLETED. MRS. LLOYD AS TUTOR. A meeting of the executive of the Wairarapa Drama League was held yesterday, Miss O. R. Sutherland occupying the chair. An apology for absence “was received from Miss B. Coleman. Most of the business centred round the Drama School which the Wairarapa League is giving in a fortnight’s time for members of the League. The dates are now definitely fixed for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, June 15, 16 and 17.
Mrs. Victor Lloyd has accepted the position of tutor to the school and will rehearse one-act plays, take rehearsal exercises and lecture on children’s plays. Members of the Drama League will remember a previous > Drama School conducted here by Mr. and Mrs V. Lloyd and the delightful work done then. Through the generosity of Mrs. M. Cleghorn and the St. Matthew’s Board of Governors, the scho'ol will be held in St. Matthew's School Hall in comfortable conditions with a fine stage. The hours of study will be mainly evening, but on Saturday it is hoped to get two hours in" the morning and two in the afternoon also. It was decided that the school should be free to all Drama League members and those interested are reminded that membership is 2/6 only. All those wishing to come to the school are asked io enrol at once, either with their club representative on the executive or with the secretary. Miss P. Jordan. The one-act plays will be cast before the school opens, by Mrs E. J. Rich and Miss O. R. Sutherland, so that students may have the opportunity to read the plays. With regard to the drama festival, it was decided that the closing date should be July 1; the festival commences on July 19. Intending entrants are asked to note that by a resolution passed at the last New Zealand Council meeting, professionals will be allowed to compete at festivals, Also areas are now permitted to waive or modify the rule which prohibits players appearing in more than one play. Mrs. M. Cleghorn gave a very interesting account of the last council meeting, to which she was a delegate. She reported that the festival rules are to be revised by the Timaru area. Also the council is, with the help of areas, to form a panel of judges. The New Zealand elimination and final festivals will bo held in the second and third weeks of October respectively.
