YOUNG FARMERS

MASTERTON CLUB MEETING. FORTHCOMING ACTIVITIES. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Young Farmers’ Club was held in

the Farmers’ Rooms on Wednesday evening. There iwas a good attendance of 'members. A letter was received Mr N. Lamont re the plant-

ing of trees by members as a Centen-

nial Memorial. Mr Lamont also wrote regarding a debate with the Featherston Young Farmers’ Club. It was decided that the secretary write to that club fixing the date. 'Another letter from Mr Lamont referred to a demonstration to be given by Mr Duncan, of the Agricultural Department, on woolsheds and yards on July 20. It was decided to send a letter of sympathy to Mrs J. Watson in her recent sad bereavement. It was agreed that a record be kept of the attendance of members. A visit' will be made to the Wallaceville Laboratories on July 6. The visitors will be entertained in Wellington in the evening. It was decided to hire, a bus to convey the party. A Young Farmers’ Club camp will be held at Wanganui from June 19 to 24. An interesting programme has been drawn up, including visits to factories and farms, demonstrations and a district tour with social attractions, such as a Young Farmers’ Club ball and a sports meeting. Any member interested is advised 'o get in touch with the club secretary, Mr C. McKay. A ping pong match with the Carterton Club to be held at Parkvale was discussed. The speaker of the evening was Sir William Perry, who spoke on “Land Development.” He referred chiefly to his experiences at "Penrose.” Sir William emphasised such things as efficient draining and the value of liming in the Wairarapa district. He said that only by careful observation would the results of different manures be noticed. Supper was served. The next meeting will be held on June 20, when members will relate their experiences on their tour of the South Island.
