MINIATURE RIFLES INTERCLUB MATCH. ("Times-Age” Special.) Carterton ■ shooters journeyed to Featherston last evening to fire an intei'-club miniature rifles match with Featherston, and were defeated by 13 points. STEPHEN C. SKELLEY. After an illness -extending over a short period there died ~at his residence Dixon Street. Carterton, a very highly respected resident of Carterton in the person of Mr. Stephen Culmer Skelley, at an advanced age. Many years ago the late Mr. Skelley conducted a successful grocery business in High Street and’ was greatly respected for his business integrity. During his long residence in Carterton he made many friends. Of late years the deceased had lived a retired life. In 1897 he entered civic life and was a member of the Carterton Borough Council for a period of six years rendering excellent service to the town.- He was also a member of St. Mark’s Lodge of Freemasons. He leaves a widow and a grown -up family of four daughters and one son. The daughters are: Mesdames Speer (Nelson), J. Lake (Brisbane), Mrs. Harold Deller (Moreton Road, Carterton) and Miss Skelley (Dixon Street, Carterton) and the son is, Mr. Tom Skelley of Okaihau. The funeral which will be of a private nature, will take place tomorrow morning. SERVICES RECOGNISED GIFTS TO MISS McLEAN. In recognition of services rendered] to the Carterton Bowling Club on| many occasions by Miss Edna McLean, in looking after afternoon teas when other help was not available, several members of the Carterton Club gathered at the residence of Mr. Gordon Hughan last evening to wish the bride-to-be the best of good wishes on the eve of her approaching marriage. In the absence of the president, Mr C. J. DpLacey said the bowlers had met to thank Miss McLean for the assistance she had rendered the club, which was greatly appreciated by all. He asked her tff accept on behalf of members three articles that would be of service to her in her married life. They wore an electric-toaster, an electric jug and an electric bed lamp’, and he wished, on behalf of members, that she and Mr. J. Todd would have a very happy wedded life. Mr. Boyne and Mr. Gordon Hughan also added their appreciation of the services of Miss McLean and wished her the best of good luck. Mr. J. Todd and . Miss E. McLean thanked the members of the Bowling Club for their useful gifts and the kindly remarks made by the speakers. The health of the prospective bride and bridegroom were drunk and the singing “For they are Jqlly Good Fellows” closed a pleasant gathering. KING’S BIRTHDAY POST OFFICE-HOURS. Postal arrangements for King's Birthday and the hours for the transaction of business at the Carterton Poet Office on Monday, are as under:— The telephone exchange remains open continuously. All mails will close at 7 a.m.; street pillar boxes will be cleared at 6 a.m. The telegraph, postal, moneyorder and savings bank branches will not be open. Postmen's and rural deliveries will not be made. The Late Mr. Thompson. The funeral of the late Mr. George Thomas Thompson took place yesterday afternoon and was largely attended’bv relatives and friends of the deceased. Before the cortege moved off from the residence, a short service was conducted by the Rev. H. White, Methodist minister, who also conducted the service at the graveside.
