PROPAGANDA PROHIBITED -IN CANADA DEFENCE OF DEMOCRACY. LIMITS ON FREE SPEECH. By Telegraph—Press association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 11.45 a.m.) OTTAWA, May 30. In the House of Commons, the Minister of Justice (Mr. E. Lapointe) announced that naturalisation certificates of aliens who spread propaganda will be cancelled. Foreign government representatives in Canada had been notified that they must .not interfere with naturalised citizens. .“Free speech is necessary to Demcncracy,” the Minister said, “but it does not confer on organisations which betray it the right to destroy democracy.” Mr. A. Heaps, a Commonwealth Federation member, asked, since Russia is to be Britain’s ally, why Communism should be lin'ked with Fascism and Nazism. Mr. Lapointe stated: “Communism is just as abhorrent, regardless of what pacts have been signed.”
