OPTIMISTS CLUB
WEEKLY MEETING. TALK ON MISSION WORK. Assistant-Chief Smiler M. Finlayson opened the. weekly meeting of the Optimists’ Club last night, in the un avoidable absence of Chief Smiler A Handyside. After 'the Sheriff's session and tea had been disposed with, the visitors were introduced and given a true Optimist welcome: Two new members were elected and several others signified their intention of joining. Community singing, led by Optimis l C. Greagor followed and was heartily joined in. At an appropriate time, mention was made of the impending departure of Song Leader Greagor, and he was duly accorded musical honours. In a few words Optimist Greagor replied and said how he had enjoyed the fellowship of the members. He would always carry with him happy memories of the time spent at the Optimist Club meetings.
The Rev. T. V. Pearson was welcomed as the Club’s Padre, and, in replying, he stated he had often won ■ dered what was the aim of the Optimist Club but after being present at two meetings he was only too happy to accept the position of padre and would do all in his power to help the club. The Rev. V. Le C. Binet, Methodist Mission er from the Solomon Islands, where he spent some 15 years, was the speaker and he gave a most interesting talk on mission work in the Islands. He answered a number of questions and altogether provided instructive matter for members to ponder on. Optimist E. Robinson, on behalf of the Club, thanked the speaker for his address. •
