IN THE ROCKIES

THEIR MAJESTIES’ TOUR OF CANADA KING DRIVES ENGINE OVER SECTION QUEEN ADMIRES MOUNTAIN SCENERY. MEETINGS WITH CHILDREN. REVELSTOKE (British Columbia). May 28. The special correspondent of the Australian Associated Press says that the King piloted the Koya I train part of the way through the Rockies today. He entered the cab ftt Beavermouth and took control as far as Stoney Creek, 23 miles further west. The locomotive which the King drove was the Canadian Pacific Rail-

way Company’s No. 5919. It is the largest engine in the Empire and weighs 370 tons. Two additional locomotives were required after Stoney Creek to take the train up a gradient of five feet in a hundred. The Queen, meanwhile, sat in the drawing-room car enthralled at the beauty of the snow-cap-ped peaks. Before boarding the train their Majesties drove to lovely Lake Loujse, a unique scenic gem at the foot of a glacier.

Four-year-old Roberta James, who approached their Majesties’ car in Scottish dress to bring a message for Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret Rose, delayed the departure from Banff for 10 minutes with the result that 50 journalists and officials missed the pilot train and had to make a wild drive of 65 miles through the mountains to overtake the train at Field. Their Majesties’ delight in children is constantly being made apparent. A child yesterday tossed a posy into the car and then stood close to tears as apparently it was not noticed. , The Queen, however, bent down and picked it up and, turning round, held up the posy and graciously acknowledged the gift. ,The King concluded an intimate chat with .Roberta this morning with obvious reluctance.
