TE WHARAU

GOLF CLUB COMPETITIONS. MATCH WITH HINAKURA. . (“Times-Age” Special.) No club competition was held by the Te Wharau Golf Club during the weekend as a team visited Hinakura for an inter-club match. The visitors were successful in defeating the home team by 15 games to 5, one game being halved. In the ladies’ fourball Te Wharau won both games and in the ladies’ singles won all four games. In the men’s fourball Te Wharau won two and lost three and in the men's singles the visitors won seven games, lost two and one was all square. At the conclusion of the match Mr S. Gray thanked the members of the Hinakura Club for their hospitality and for the very enjoyable day they had spent. Mr I. Charles replied on behalf of the home club, stating they were all looking forward to a return match at Te Wharau. In a match for the silver buttons Miss Schofield and A. McGregor defeated the holders, Mrs Schofield and S. Gray. Next playing day will be on Saturday when the third round for the trqphies. will be played. The draw will be posted in» the clubhouse. The following day the second round of the Stableford competition will be plaved. On June 4 a team will visit Stronvar in an annual inter-club match. This match is not a Donald Cup fixture, as the Stronvar Club has entered a challenge for a later date. Surprise Party. A very pleasant surprise was given to Mr and Mrs A. McGregor, "Hikorangi,” on Monday evening, when their'many friends visited them in the form of a surprise party, the occasion being the 25th anniversary of thenwedding. The dining room was cleared of furniture and carpets and dicing was indulged in till the early hours of the morning. Supper was served and a most- enjoyable evening was spent by one and all. At the conclusion of the gathering Mr McGregor thankee all those present for their thoughtfulness and their many happy felicitations.
