FEATHERSTON COUNTY
COUNCIL’S MONTHLY MEETING ADDITIONAL HIGHWAYS WANTED. ROADS IN GOOD ORDER. (“Times-Age” Special.) A decision,,to apply to the Main Highways Board to have the Martin-borough-Tuturumuri and the PirinoaLake Ferry roads declared main highways was made at the monthly meeting of the Featherston County Council yesterday. The tender of Messrs Garrity Bros., Greytown, was accepted for metalling the Western Lake Road. A carrier was reported to the council for allegedly overloading in closed county roads, and it was decided to take action in the matter. Renewal of slaughterhouse licences was granted to C. W. Skill, Martinborough; W. H. Gundy", Featherston, and W. H. Davis, Featherston. Drain cleaning had been commenced on Battersea Road, Phillips and Duddings Lines, and the unemployed on Kaitara Road had been making good progress, reported the Overseers, Messrs J. G. Mahood and T. Davis. On the whole the roads were in good order and during the month the usual maintenance work was attended to. Work on the Fabian’s Road was almost completed, and the gang should either be dismissed or put on to other work at the end of the week, stated the report submitted by the Engineer, Mr H. F. Toogood. GENERAL RATE REDUCED. There will be a reduction of an eighth of a penny in the pound in the general rate for the Featherston County during the current year. The general rate was struck at 1 5-8 d as compared with l?d last year. The hospital rate was struck at 4d, and all other separate rates will be the same as those for last year.
