The Hon H. G. R. Mason, AttorneyGeneral, left Wellington for Auckland by the Limited Express last night.
The Rt Rev H. St Barbe Holland, Bishop of Wellington, is leaving Auckland by the Akaroa today on a health-recruiting visit to England. He will be accompanied by Mrs Holland.
The Hon W. Nash, Minister of Finance, who is on his way to Great Britain, is due to leave New York today by the Atlantic liner Queen Mary for London, where he is expected to arrive on Tuesday. Mr Nash visited Washington last week. The death occurred on Monday evening of Mr George Frederick Alder, managing director of Messrs. Collett and Sons, at the age of 78, states a message from Dannevirke. He had been a well-known Dannevirke resident for the past 30 years. Captain A. J. Charman, marine superintendent in the South Island for the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company, Ltd, is to retire shortly, at his own request, after completing 49 years of service with the company. He will be succeeded by Captain J. H. Gaskell, late commander of the Shaw, Savill liner Mataroa.
The death' has occurred of Miss Nani Kira, aged 14, a well-known Rotorua Maori girl swimmer, says a message from Rotorua. Miss Kira in 1937 won the New Zealand 50 yards junior freestyle title, and, some months later, broke the New Zealand record for the 50 yards backstroke, her time remaining unbeaten till the junior national championships, held in Rotorua this year.
