ST. JOHN AMBULANCE

CADET DIVISION PARADE. PRESENTATION OF CERTIFICATES. ' Mr E. B. Gilberd, District Officer of Wellington, and Mr C. Ford, Cadet Officer of the Wellington Y.M.C.A. Division, attended the weekly parade of the Masterton Cadet Division on Monday night. Forty-one members paraded. In addressing those' present Mr Gilberd said that he was gratified by the high standard of efficiency the Division had attained, and after referring to the aims and objects of the St John Ambulance Brigades, presented Cadet Officer G. T. Swain with his Grand Prior’s Badge. He congratulated him on being the first Masterton member to attain this distinction. It is the aim of every St John Ambulance Cadet throughout the British Empire to qualify for this distinction, and to do so they must first obtain 12 proficiency certificates. Mr Gilberd then presented various proficiency certificates won by members during this year. Such a large number of certificates, he said, could not but reflect favourably upon the keeness and ability of the officers and members of the Masterton Division. The following certificates were presented: — Camping and rambling.—Cadets J. Butler, W. Ryan, D. Parsons. H. Newman. M. Millward, M. McGovern, R. Henderson, C. Davey, R. Steele, M. Simpson and E. Groombridge. Physical exercises and organised games.—Cadets W. Ryan, R. Rippon, D. Parsons, H. Newman, M. Millward, M. McGovern, M. Mangham, N. McNicol, R. Henderson, D. Wilmshurst, L. Torrance, R. Steele, I. Allen, E. Groombridge, M. Simpson, C. Davey, R. Crothers, and J. Butler., Swimming and life-saving.—Corpor-als R. Martin and E. Grigg, Cadets W. Ryan, D. Parsons, E. Groombridge, R. McGovern, L. Dean, G. Dean, J. Butler, D. Gray and C. Davey. Cooking.—Cadets H. Newman, W. Ryan, G. Dean. R. McGovern, R. Henderson, D. Gray. M. Simpson, E. Groombridge, C. Davey, J. Butler and Walter Dell. / Public service.—Corporal R. Martin, Cadets L. Dean and D. Gray. Handicraft. —Sergeant T. and Corporal E. Grigg, Cadets L. Dean, H. Newman, G. Dean. Hygiene.—Sergeant T. Morris, Corporals E. Grigg and R. Martin, Cadets L. Dean, G. Dean and R. McGovern. Child welfare. —Corporal E. Grigg and Cadet L. Dean. Knowledge of the Order. —Sergeant T. Morris. Clerical ability.—Corporal E. Grigg and Cadet L. Dean. Homecraft. —Cadet G. Dean. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the two visiting officers. Before returning to Wellington the visitors were entertained at supper at the residence of the Cadet Superintendent, Mr C. S. McQuade.
