MOTOR RELICENSING
ISSUE OF NEW NUMBER PLATES. MANY STILL OUTSTANDING. Only a week remains in which motorists may obtain their new number plates and drivers’ licences. Although a fail’ number have made early application, there will be the inevitable last minute rush to secure plates and licences. At the Masterton Post Office 1258 plates have been issued so far, this numlaer being slightly ahead of the number at the corresponding period last year. At the end of May, 1938, a total of 2311 motor vehicles had been relicensed, so that at least 1000 require to be dealt with in the next six working days. The new plates have to be affixed by June 1. The position regarding motor drivers’ licences is not quite so satisfactory. Only 600 have been issued by the Masterton Borough Council to date out of a total of over 2000 and 350 by the Masterton County Council out of about 1300, so that late-comers will probably have to form queues before they can receive their new licences. As in past years, special arrangements have been made by the Post Office and local body authorities to deal with the rush.
