CARTAGE OF PIGS

FARMERS’ UNION PROTEST. REPRESENTATIONS TO DEPARTMENT.. Transport costs came in for passing mention at yesterday’s meeting of the Wairarapa Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union, when it was stated that under the new schedule it cost as much to cart pigs three miles from the railway station as it did to cart them fifteen miles. After some discussion the following motion was carried: “That in view of the fact that the cost of the cartage of pigs has been imposed without reference to the Farmers’ Union, an urgent protest be lodged with the Transport Department that the charge be revised immediately.” The department is also to be asked to. reconsider the question of lime cartage, the loading of lambs and consignment notes.
