RURAL TELEPHONES
ONLY FIVE DISCONNECTIONS REPORTED. i MANY ADJUSTMENTS MADE. Following on the recent withdrawal of concessions granted by the Government during the last depression in respect to rural telephone subscription rates, considerable readjustment is taking place on certain lines serving country areas. In the Langdale, Tinui and Blairlogie districts some Government lines have been brought up to the maximum number of subscribers allowed by the regulations and in other cases adjustments have been made with private lines which connect with the Government service. Actually, since the concession was withdrawn, five subscribers on Government lines have had their telephones disconnected and four of these were on one line serving the Mt Bruce district. In several cases, the bringing of the line up to its maximum carrying capacity of ten subscribers has enabled subscribers to continue their telephones with little increase in rates.
