ALFREDTON
RIFLE CLUB BALL. AN OUTSTANDING SUCCESS. (“Times-Age” Special.) That popular social function, the annual ball of the Alfredton Rifle Club, took place on Tuesday night and proved an outstanding success. Visitors were present from far and near te swell the happy throng, and the programme went with a swing to the excellent music of Udy’s Orchestra. The floor was still crowded when the last dance was indulged in at 3 a.m. The hall was tastefully decorated with frilled streamers in pastel shades radiating from a large centre clump of balloons, while on the walls were sprays of multi-coloured raupo interspersed with mirrors. The decorative scheme was planned by Mr L. Percy, of Auckland, a former secretary of the club.
The supper tables were prettily decorated with chrysanthemums and autumn tints and set off the bountiful supper prepared by the ladies’ committee.
During an interval, the president, Mr A. C. Edmonds, in a short speech, thanked the donors of trophies and also Mrs Rutherfurd and Mrs D. Smith for the use of their properties on which the club’s range is situated. He then asked Mr R. W. Kebbell to make the presentations. Mr Kebbell congratulated Rifleman H. C. Percy on his success at the Auckland championship meeting where he gained second place, and also congratulated the local Farmers’ Union team on winning the annual Farmers Union competition between teams from all parts of the Dominion. He then presented the trophies as follows: —
A grade:—Championship, Edmonds Cup, won by Rifleman C. Morrison; runner-up, trophy, Rifleman H. C. Percy. Handicap aggregate, Kebbell Rose Bowl, Rifleman J. H. Macdonald. Long-range aggregate, Napier Rose Bowl, Rifleman C. Morrison. B grade: —B grade championship, Akel Cup. Rifleman R. Algie. Handicap aggregate, Godinagh . Shield, Rifleman A. Algie. Long-range aggregate, Moate Cup, Rifleman R. Algie. Service championship, Greathead Cup, Rifleman H C. Percy. Ladies’ trophies: Mrs H. i Seymour, Mrs G. Napier. Trophies to go with the cups, etc., were donated by the following:—Messrs J. Bradbury, L. Percy, King and Henry, Herbert and Co., J. H. Macdonald and A. Edmonds; and were won by C. Morrison, H. Percy, R. Algie, J. H. Macdonald, A. Algie and H. Percy. Silver spoons (for weekly shoots) were donated by Messrs C. Dickens (4), G. Napier (2), T. H. Groves (2), R. W. Kebbell, J. S. McKay, C. Morrison, A. C. Edmonds, G. J. Godinagh, H. Youle, H. C. Percy, and wer ewon by Riflemen C. Morrison (2), H. Duckett (2), G. Godinagh (2), A. C. Edmonds (3), H. C. Percy (3), J. Evans, W. Leach, H. Leach, M. Robbie, R. Graham, V. Brabant, A. Leach, J. H. Macdonald and I. Macdonald. A special trophy, presented by Mrs H. SeyI mour, for the rifleman who made the ; least excuses, was won by Rifleman J. Evans.
