WORLD-WIDE THOUGHT

AIDING AND ABETTING WAR. The thought which is in every mind and the word which is on every lip today is of the danger of war, writes Mr J. Roscoe Drummond in the “Christian Science Monitor.” Consciousness of this danger—if it be alert spiritual consciouusness—will be an aid in preventing war. But consciousness of this danger—if it be a pervading fear—will be an aid to abetting war. The most-used tools in the hands of would-be war-makers at this moment are the minds of the people, and more important to the ultimate issue than budgets or bombs or battleships is whether or not our mentality is to be conditioned by the acceptance of war as either probable, imminent, or inescapable. Resistance to the thought that war is unavoidable is incalculably less today than lor a long time. This is the weakest point in the world’s defence against world war. It must be strengthened. It can be strengthened.
