AUCKLAND JEWS
PROTEST AGAINST PALESTINE POLICY. CABLEGRAM TO SECRETARY FOR COLONIES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 19. The British Government’s proposals regarding Palestine have aroused a feeling of strong indignation in the Jewish community in Auckland. Expression has been given to this feeling in a cablegram which has been sent to the Secretary of State for the Colonies, Mr Malcolm MacDonald. The cablegram, a copy of Which was sent to the Prime Minister, Mr Savage, was signed by the Rev Alexander Astor and Mr David L. Nathan on behalf of the Auckland Hebrew congregation. The message is: “Auckland Jewry is appalled at the Palestine proposals, deplores the repudiation of the Balfour declaration and of the mandate, reducing the Jews to ghetto status in their promised national home, and loyally urges the retention of the British mandate and the fulfilment of solemn world pledges.”
