Their Majesties’ day of tremendous ovations at Montreal ended when, after a civic banquet, they appeared on a balcony high up on the floodlit facade of the Windsor Hotel to acknowledge the tribute of a crowd of 75,000 jamming the - square and overflowing the adjoining streets. Today the King and Queen leave for Ottawa, having completed their visit to French Canada where, it is agreed. French Canadians staged spontaneous demonstrations which could not be surpassed anywhere in the Empire. Along the route taken by the Royal train through French Canada from Quebec to Montreal knots of farmers gathered at every crossing to cheer their Sovereigns. At Three Rivers, a town with a population of 20,000, 50,000 swelled the station yard. Their Majesties detrained there for 15 minutes to receive loyal addresses.
